quito - Ecuador was left in shock as the mysterious disappearance of four young footballers came to a devastating end.

Ecuador was left in shock as the mysterious disappearance of four young footballers came to a devastating end. The bodies of Steven Medina (11), brothers Josué (14) and Ismael Arroyo (15), and Saúl Arboleda (15) were found burnt, leading to the arrest of sixteen military personnel for their abduction.

On December 8, the four boys left their home in a poor neighborhood of Guayaquil to play football but never returned. One of the boys managed to call his father for help, claiming they were abandoned by the army at an airbase 45 minutes away from where they were taken. Despite the father's plea to the police, the boys were nowhere to be found.

As weeks passed with no sign of the children, desperation grew among the parents and public outrage spread across Ecuador. Protests erupted in Guayaquil and Quito, with demonstrators condemning the abduction. Authorities initially blamed 'criminal gangs' for the incident, denying any military involvement.

Surveillance footage later revealed soldiers dragging the boys into a truck at gunpoint, escalating the situation. President Daniel Noboa vowed justice, ordering full cooperation with the investigation. Sixteen soldiers were arrested following the release of the troubling video. The discovery of charred bodies near the airbase confirmed the worst fears on New Year's Eve.

A key witness, known as 'the Samaritan,' shed light on the boys' final hours. He recounted sheltering the traumatized boys after they sought refuge at his door post-abduction. Despite offering aid, the boys were abducted once again by masked men on motorcycles, never to be seen alive again.
