Australian Couple Faces Charges for Shaving Son's Head to Fake Cancer and Raise Donations

adelaide - An Australian couple is accused of pretending their 6-year-old son had cancer in order to raise donations for his treatment.

Michelle Bodzsar and Ben Stephen Miller, a couple from Adelaide, claimed that their son had eye cancer and started a crowdfunding campaign last month to collect donations for his treatment.

To make the deception more believable, Bodzsar, a hairdresser, enlisted the help of a colleague to shave her son's head. She also reportedly tied his legs together and put him in a wheelchair.

Friends, family, and acquaintances from school generously donated, raising the equivalent of around 36,000 euros in no time.

However, Bodzsar and her husband were arrested last Friday as it was revealed that their son did not have cancer. The couple appeared in court for the first time on Friday night and are facing charges of fraud. If found guilty, they could face a maximum prison sentence of seven years.
