south korea - South Korea's President Yoon Suk Yeol will not attend the first impeachment trial hearing due to security concerns, according to his lawyer.

South Korea's President Yoon Suk Yeol, whose powers have been suspended, will not be attending the first hearing of the impeachment trial due to security concerns, his lawyer announced. The crisis resulting from the suspension of President Yoon Suk Yeol's powers continues, as Yoon's lawyer Yun Gap-geun made a new statement about the impeachment process against his client. Yun stated that the Constitutional Court will receive the initial oral arguments in the impeachment case on Tuesday and mentioned that Yoon will not attend the first hearing due to security concerns. Yun said, "While illegal and invalid attempts to apply an unlawful arrest warrant continue, we have concerns about personal security and possible disruptions. The personal security issue needs to be resolved for the President to attend the hearing." Yun also added that if the security concerns are addressed, Yoon may attend the hearing.

Impeachment Process: South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol declared a 6-hour state of emergency alleging opposition activities against the state, leading to the initiation of the impeachment process through a vote in the National Assembly. Yoon, whose powers were suspended and is under investigation, had ignored calls from the investigation committee to testify. A court-issued arrest warrant for Yoon could not be executed as the Presidential Security Service (PSS) police did not allow access to the presidential residence. The final decision on whether Yoon will be removed from office is expected to be made by the Constitutional Court.
