stockholm - Sweden started 2025 with a historically high number of bomb attacks across the country, causing concern and leading to crisis meetings with the Minister of Justice.

Wave of Explosions Hits Sweden

As Sweden began the year, a wave of explosions with grenades and other weapons shook the country, causing damage and injuries. A recent powerful blast in southern Stockholm damaged an apartment complex, leaving one person severely injured. This marked the 22nd explosion in less than a month, indicating a concerning trend of increasing violence.

Minister of Justice Gunnar Strömmer held crisis talks to assess the situation and discuss potential short and long-term measures. The recent surge in explosions, although not resulting in fatalities, poses a significant threat to public safety and privacy. The police are urging citizens to report any suspicious activities to help combat the violence.

For years, Sweden has grappled with violence stemming from gang conflicts in its cities. Despite a decrease in shootings and bombings in recent years, the current rise in violent incidents is attributed to the growing availability of explosives and escalating criminal disputes.

The perpetrators of these violent acts have been getting younger, with an increasing number of minors appearing in court for crimes involving weapons. Experts suggest that youth involvement in gang violence reflects a concerning trend where criminal activities become normalized as part-time jobs, often under coercion and threats.
