Hundreds of men were exchanged between Russia and Ukraine, yet many remain in uncertainty. Reportedly, thousands of Ukrainians are suffering in Putin's prisons, facing torture, abuse, and poor detention conditions, as per UN reports.

Putin's regime has been accused of brutal treatment towards Ukrainian prisoners, including torture, humiliation, and starvation. Tragically, there have been reports of extrajudicial killings by Russian forces.

The United Nations interviewed 250 prisoners released by Russia, with 90% stating they had been tortured. While Russian authorities attempt a PR campaign showing good treatment, the reality seems grim for many captives.

The total number of prisoners on both sides remains unclear, but it's estimated that Russia still holds around 8000 Ukrainian captives. The government in Kiev revealed that since the conflict's start, Russia has repatriated 3956 soldiers and civilians, 1358 of which in the past year.

Under international law, warring parties should document detainees and provide details to the Red Cross. While Ukraine complies, Russia refuses, hindering transparency in the prisoner situation.

The recent prisoner exchange brought tears and relief for 189 individuals released in northern Ukraine, reuniting with their families amidst emotional scenes. Both sides expressed strong sentiments of loyalty and determination.

On the Russian side, the 'human rights commissioner' Moskalkova welcomed the released soldiers, claiming Putin's concern for their well-being. Ukrainian President Zelenski reassured that no captive soldier would be forgotten.
