USWNT Forward Alyssa Thompson Joins Chelsea

United States women's national team forward Alyssa Thompson has completed a transfer to Chelsea from NWSL side Angel City FC in a deal worth approximately $1.3 million.

Transfer Details

Chelsea will pay Angel City an initial fee of around $1.3 million, with potential add-ons that could reach close to $2 million. This move comes after the world-record transfer of Grace Geyoro to London City Lionesses for £1.43 million.

Chelsea's Pursuit

Chelsea's interest in Thompson grew, especially after Mayra Ramírez's injury, prompting the club to secure the 20-year-old forward. Thompson, who signed a new contract with Angel City in January, has made 62 appearances and scored 15 goals in the NWSL.

Exciting Opportunity at Chelsea

Thompson expressed her excitement about joining Chelsea, citing the opportunity to play with top players and grow as a young talent. Chelsea's head of women's football praised Thompson's skills and potential, emphasizing her dynamic playing style and versatility.

Thompson, capped 22 times for the USWNT, is set to contribute to Chelsea's Women's Super League campaign, starting with a match against Manchester City.
