Judges case Mladić replaced due to bias

World September 5, 2018 14:00

the hague - Three of the five judges who are dealing with the appeal of Ratko Mladić have been replaced. This decision has to do with possible bias towards the former Bosnian Serb army leader, according to court documents released on Wednesday.

The now 75-year-old Mladić got a life sentence last year, partly because of the genocide in Srebrenica. Mladić's troops were overrun in 1995. Shortly after, many thousands of Muslim men and boys were killed. Srebrenica was then under the protection of Dutch peace soldiers.

The former army leader has appealed the ruling. His lawyers had successfully filed a challenge against several judges, including the renowned lawyer Theodor Meron. He is the chairman of the International Rest Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals, which deals with Mladić's case.
