- A multinational team led by the US calls for support in enforcing UN sanctions against North Korea.

US-Led Multinational Team Takes Action Against North Korea

An executive board meeting of the Multinational Sanctions Monitoring Team (MSMT), established by 11 countries including the US, Japan, South Korea, and more, was held in Washington, DC. The team aims to ensure full implementation of UN sanctions against North Korea to support international peace and security efforts.

The joint statement released after the meeting emphasized the team's commitment to assisting in the enforcement of sanctions against North Korea, particularly in response to its nuclear weapons and ballistic missile programs. The MSMT was formed in October 2024 following the dissolution of a sanctions panel monitoring North Korea's nuclear and missile activities vetoed by Russia at the UN Security Council.

The participating countries reiterated their dedication to upholding global peace, preventing the spread of nuclear weapons, and countering threats posed by North Korea's weapons of mass destruction and missile programs. The MSMT executive board reaffirmed its resolve to ensure full compliance with UN Security Council resolutions concerning North Korea and urged all states to support global efforts to safeguard international peace and security against threats originating from North Korea and those enabling its violations of UN Security Council resolutions.
