Pentagon's Plan to Reduce Civilian Workforce

The US Department of Defense, also known as the Pentagon, has revealed its intention to lay off 5-8% of its civilian employees to enhance productivity and refocus on combat readiness. According to Darin Selnick, the Undersecretary of Defense for Personnel and Readiness, approximately 5,400 employees in non-critical roles are expected to be the first to be let go as part of cost-saving measures. Selnick emphasized the importance of eliminating redundancies to better serve the taxpayers and ensure the efficiency of the workforce.

Pentagon officials, who preferred to remain anonymous, stated that efforts are being made to exempt individuals working in critical national security roles, such as cybersecurity, intelligence, operations, and foreign military sales, from the layoffs. The Department of Defense has temporarily halted the layoffs until a more comprehensive assessment of the impact on the US military is conducted.
