Key Contenders and Absentees
While there is no outspoken favorite, 70-year-old Cardinal Pietro Parolin is seen as a strong candidate, potentially becoming the first Italian pope in years. Two of the 135 eligible cardinals are absent - Antonio Cañizares due to health reasons and Angelo Becciu, convicted of fraud and embezzlement.
