south korea - A court in South Korea has rejected the appeal of Yoon Suk Yeol, who was removed from the presidency, for an arrest warrant. The court also set a deadline for the implementation of the arrest warrant related to the state of emergency declaration.

A court in South Korea has rejected the appeal of Yoon Suk Yeol, who was removed from the presidency, for an arrest warrant. The court also set a deadline for the implementation of the arrest warrant related to the state of emergency declaration.

The court in the Western Region of South Korea announced its decision on Yoon's appeal regarding the arrest and search warrant issued against him in connection with the investigation for 'rebellion' and 'abuse of power' conducted on December 31, 2024.

The same court had issued an arrest warrant for Yoon in the investigation on December 31, 2024, for 'rebellion' and 'abuse of power,' but suspended the execution of the order due to clashes between police officers going to the official residence and security guards.

The court has set January 6 as the deadline for the implementation of the arrest warrant against Yoon concerning the charges of 'rebellion' and 'abuse of power' related to the state of emergency declaration.

Yoon's lawyer stated that Yoon plans to testify in the impeachment trial at the Constitutional Court.

The court has scheduled five trial dates for the impeachment trial, with the first hearing to take place on January 14.

Furthermore, protests demanding Yoon's arrest continue in the country. Hundreds of protesters gathered near the official residence calling for the implementation of the decisions concerning Yoon.

President Yoon Suk Yeol had declared a state of emergency on the night of December 3, 2023, on the grounds of 'opposition involvement in anti-state activities,' but later stepped back after the parliament voted to revoke this decision and it was approved by the Cabinet.

Yoon, who was impeached by the parliament, was temporarily suspended from office until the Constitutional Court's ruling, and Prime Minister Han Duck-soo was appointed as his temporary replacement.

In a motion initiated by the opposition, a parliamentary vote on December 27 also resulted in an impeachment decision for Prime Minister Han, who was acting president. Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance Choi Sang-mok assumed the role of acting president in Han's place.
