The US State Department's Office of the Chief of Protocol has announced the list of gifts received by President Joe Biden and his wife Jill Biden from foreign leaders in 2023. According to the briefing report, the most expensive gift was given by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his visit to the US. Modi presented the First Lady with a laboratory-created diamond, valued at $20,000 and weighing 7.5 carats. Jill Biden also received a brooch worth $14,063 from the Ambassador of Ukraine to Washington, and a bracelet, brooch, and photo album with a total value of $4,510 from the President and First Lady of Egypt, Abdelfattah el-Sisi.

President Biden, on the other hand, received a souvenir photo album worth $7,100 from the recently ousted president of South Korea, Yoon Suk Yeol, a $3,495 Mongolian warrior statue from the Mongolian Prime Minister, a $3,300 silver bowl from the Sultan of Brunei, a $3,160 silver tray from the President of Israel, and a $2,400 collage from the leader of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky.

According to US laws, senior government officials are required to declare gifts received from foreign leaders with a value of $480 or more. Officials must purchase these gifts from their respective leaders at market value in order to retain them. Otherwise, the gifts are transferred to the National Archives. As per the notification from the US State Department, the $20,000 diamond is kept at the East Wing of the White House for official use, while other gifts given to the President and First Lady have been sent to the National Archives.
