nairobi - A horrific massacre of Christians in a church in the Democratic Republic of Congo remains unsolved, with the IS-linked culprits still at large.

Massacre in Congo Leaves Dozens Dead

In a Protestant church in Kasanga, Lubero region, the bodies of seventy beheaded individuals were discovered, believed to be victims of the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) linked to IS. The ADF, originating from Uganda, reportedly kidnapped the victims from a village in North Kivu and carried out the brutal killings in Kasanga.

The ADF, known for its acts of terrorism, has a history of violence in the region, with previous attacks in Buni resulting in numerous casualties. The group's activities expanded to the DRC due to its remote location and weak government presence, making investigations into such atrocities challenging.

Wimco Ester of Open Doors expressed concern over the lack of accountability for the massacre, urging authorities to take action against the ADF. Efforts have been made to raise awareness internationally, with inquiries being made by political parties in the Netherlands and discussions at the International Criminal Court in The Hague during the visit of chief prosecutor Karim Khan.

Ester emphasized the urgency of addressing the ongoing violence in Congo, particularly in the face of such heinous acts by militant groups. The need for justice and security in a resource-rich country like the DRC remains a pressing issue.
