cairo, egypt - The extraordinary Arab Summit in Cairo faced objections from the US and Israel regarding the Gaza reconstruction plan.

US and Israel Object to Egypt's Gaza Reconstruction Plan

In an extraordinary Arab Summit in Cairo, the plan for Gaza's reconstruction was rejected by the US and Israel. The plan, estimated to cost $53 billion, focuses on rebuilding Gaza within 5 years without displacing its residents. The White House National Security Council Spokesperson Brian Hughes stated that the current proposal ignores the fact that Gaza is currently uninhabitable and emphasized President Donald Trump's vision to rebuild Gaza by eliminating Hamas presence. Meanwhile, Israel's Foreign Ministry criticized the summit for not addressing the realities post the October 7 Hamas attacks and supporting Trump's plan to relocate Palestinians from Gaza. Hamas, on the other hand, welcomed the plan proposing to hand over governance in Gaza to an independent group of Palestinian technocrats. Egypt is set to present the Gaza plan for approval to the 57-member Organization of Islamic Cooperation on March 7. The Foreign Ministry expressed satisfaction with the acceptance of the reconstruction plan at the Arab Summit, emphasizing ongoing support for initiatives aiming at achieving a permanent ceasefire, starting the reconstruction of Gaza, and ensuring Palestinians can live peacefully in their homeland.
