united states - TikTok has been blocked in the US due to the law that anticipates banning if not sold to an American company.

TikTok Access Blocked in the US

Chinese social media app TikTok has been blocked in the US in accordance with a law anticipating a ban if not sold to an American firm. With over 170 million users in the US, TikTok users are now greeted with a message stating the app cannot be used due to a new law. The law, set to begin officially on January 19, has resulted in TikTok being taken offline in the country just hours before the ban starts.

In a message, TikTok mentioned that the elected US President Donald Trump is working to find a solution regarding the ban. Trump had stated in his recent announcement that he considers granting the company an additional 90 days to comply with the law and avoid the ban.

The US Supreme Court approved the application of the law that anticipates banning TikTok in the US if not sold. The court stated that Congress decided it was necessary for national security to address concerns over TikTok's data collection practices and relationship with a foreign adversary. Unanimously agreed, the decision stipulates that if TikTok is not sold before January 19, it will be removed from platforms like Google and Apple, and downloading the app to devices such as phones and tablets will be prevented after that date.
