Germans prefer to see Schulz as chancellor

berlin - German voters prefer the Socialist Martin Schulz as chancellor than Angela Merkel. But 38 percent want Merkel as head of government, against 49 percent Schulz, said the 'Politbarometer' of the public broadcaster ZDF. A month ago that figure was 44 percent for Merkel and 40 percent for Schulz, who until recently was President of the European Parliament.

The SPD Schulz is on the rise. The Party emphatically voters favor in two weeks by six percentage points to 30 percent. The CDU / CSU Merkel stood at 34 percent (minus 2). The AfD took the survey 10 per cent (minus 1), the Greens 9 percent (plus one), the Linke 7 percent (minus 3) and the FDP 6 per cent (unchanged).

This still represents a large majority of the current 'grand coalition' of CDU / CSU and SPD, and a very narrow majority for a possible coalition of CDU / CSU, FDP and Greens.

The Bundestag elections are scheduled in September.
