Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass has dismissed Fire Chief Kristin Crowley for sending 1000 firefighters home under her supervision. Bass stated that Crowley refused to prepare a report after the fire-related incident. Pointing out that 1000 firefighters were sent home under Crowley's supervision on the day the fires started, Bass mentioned that she terminated the fire chief's duty to ensure the safety of Los Angeles residents and the smooth operation of the fire department.

Temporary Replacement Announced

An announcement on the city's website stated that former Deputy Fire Chief Ronnie Villanueva will temporarily assume the position of Fire Chief.

Wildfires in Los Angeles

Forest fires that started in the Pacific Palisades area of Los Angeles on January 7 rapidly spread to areas such as Eaton, Hurst, Sunset, and Woodley, claiming the lives of 29 people. The total damage and economic loss caused by the fires, which resulted in thousands of acres being damaged, is estimated to be between 250 to 275 billion dollars.
