Mexican Navy Sailboat Collides with Brooklyn Bridge

Two individuals have lost their lives and seventeen others have sustained injuries following a collision between the Mexican navy sailboat Cuauhtemoc and the Brooklyn Bridge, as announced by Mayor Eric Adams of New York.

Details of the Incident

The incident occurred when the Cuauhtemoc lost power and struck the Brooklyn Bridge, injuring 19 out of the 277 passengers on board. Among the injured, two remain in critical condition while two have tragically passed away.

The Cuauhtemoc, a ship built in Spain in 1982, was in New York for a sailing event commemorating the 250th anniversary of the United States. Rescue operations are underway, with authorities urging the public to avoid the area around the bridge.

Response and Investigation

Unconfirmed social media footage shows the sailboat colliding with the bridge and multiple masts breaking. The Mexican navy reports that the training ship sustained damage, and the crew's condition is currently being assessed. The incident occurred during a training maneuver, according to the navy.

New York authorities confirm no damage to the Brooklyn Bridge, which was temporarily closed for approximately forty minutes following the collision.
