liverpool, uk - Investigation launched after allegations of misconduct by Laurence Westgaph, an anti-racism expert.

Controversy Surrounding Anti-Racism Expert in Liverpool Museum

Liverpool Museum is investigating allegations of misconduct against Laurence Westgaph, a prominent anti-racism expert. Westgaph, known for his work on slavery and awareness, is facing accusations of past sexual misconduct and violence.

According to reports, Westgaph, who has Jamaican and Nigerian heritage, has a history of legal issues, including a previous conviction for sexual relations with a 15-year-old girl and an incident of assaulting a former girlfriend's new boyfriend.

Despite being a key figure in discussions on slavery and history, Westgaph denies all allegations, claiming that some of the accusations date back several decades.

His appointment by Liverpool Museums to help establish an 'anti-racist museum' following the death of George Floyd has now come under scrutiny. Reports suggest that multiple women have come forward with complaints of misconduct by Westgaph, with one employee expressing concerns about his presence within the museum.

While Liverpool Museums state that no formal complaints had been lodged against Westgaph prior to these recent allegations, the institution is now facing a challenging situation in light of the controversy surrounding the anti-racism expert.
