Fourteen deaths from shooting in disco

fortaleza - Due to a shooting in a discotheque in the Brazilian city of Fortaleza at least fourteen people were killed. Heavily armed men, who according to witnesses arrived in three cars, rushed into the building in the night from Friday to Saturday and opened the fire to those present. There were also several injured, six of whom are in bad shape.

The newspaper Diario do Nordeste reports on the site that the police assume a criminal settlement. In the North Brazilian coastal town a territorial war is going on between drug gangs. In the state of Ceará where Fortaleza is located, more than 5000 cases of (attempted) murder and manslaughter were registered last year. That was 50 percent more than in 2016.

In large parts of the country, the security situation has deteriorated due to budget cuts on the police equipment.
