berlin - Former president of the board Ferdinand Piëch of VW refuses to testify at a parliamentary inquiry into the possible role of the German government in the diesel scandal at the auto group. That has let his lawyer know.

Piëch gave earlier or explanation to the German judiciary. According to his lawyer, however, is that comments not intended for the ears of the public. The parliamentary committee leading the investigation, has not yet responded to the refusal of the former Volkswagen Preses.

According to German media would Piëch about the shoddy emissions data from millions of diesel cars have already sounded the alarm in March 2015 by then-CEO Martin Winterkorn and a few other drivers. That was a month before Piëch had to clear the field by Volkswagen and about half a year for the whole affair came to light publicly. Winterkorn, who was then engaged in a kind of power struggle with Piëch, however, claims that he previously was aware of the fraud. Even Volkswagen itself has denied the allegations.
