washington county - A 72-year-old woman, Pamela Helmstadter, was rescued after being missing for four days in a forest in Washington County, Maine, while her 82-year-old husband, John Helmstadter, was found dead nearby. The couple went for a walk with their dog on Sunday morning, but got separated when John fell and couldn't get up.

Authorities in the state of Maine recently rescued a woman who, along with her husband and their dog, had been missing for four days in a forest. 72-year-old Pamela Helmstadter was rescued on Thursday afternoon in Washington County, while her 82-year-old husband, John Helmstadter, was found dead in the woods less than 200 meters away from her.

The couple had left home on Sunday morning to go for a walk with their dog. Along the trail, John fell and was unable to get up. Pamela did not have her mobile phone with her at that time, so she left to seek help. After a neighbor noticed a package for the couple had been lying in the same spot for a few days, authorities were alerted.

On Thursday afternoon, a game warden and his search dog found Pamela, who was suffering from hypothermia. Her dog had been trying to keep her warm during the nights. Pamela was able to recount what had happened and was immediately taken to a hospital.

Authorities emphasized that Pamela had endured the cold well, as it had rained all day on Monday and temperatures had dropped to around 27 to 28 degrees on Wednesday evening.
