- Employers have the right to read private messages which employers during working hours sent via chat services. That the European Court of Human Rights determined in a case brought by a Romanian worker against his boss.

The programmer was fired in 2007 when his boss found himself Yahoo Messenger chat program used for personal contacts during working hours. The employee found reading his posts an infringement of his privacy.
The European Court does not agree. 'It is not unreasonable that verify an employer or his employees carry out their professional duties during working hours,' we can read in the statement.
However, the court emphasized that the ruling is not a license for employers to take on massive personal messages from employees. Guidelines should be drawn on when it is and is not allowed.
