bogota - A Colombian employee of an oil company was kidnapped by ELN rebels. The abduction was a few days after the expiry of a cease-fire with the government, just when UN top executive António Guterres visits the country, reports the BBC. According to the police, the man was taken from his workshop in Saravena near the border with Venezuela.

The violence in Colombia flared up recently. Shortly after the expiration of the file on Tuesday, the rebels launched attacks on an oil pipeline and a naval base. They used explosives for this purpose. Two soldiers were injured. Then President Juan Manuel Santos called back his chief negotiator for consultation.

The insurgents and the government of Colombia negotiated a peace agreement in Ecuador, as was previously concluded with the FARC. Both parties were initially willing to extend the file.
