chonburi - A heartfelt attempt by Thai veterinarians to a baby elephant lost a leg in an animal trap to learn to walk again. On a leash the animal is trained in a swimming pool.

The six-month-old elephant named Clear Sky got caught in a trap that had filed villagers to protect their crops.

It is the first elephant that gets called hydrotherapy. The aim is to strengthen the muscles in its front leg so that in the end they can walk again independently.

'This is the second time she enters the water, so she's still a bit nervous and scared,' says veterinarian Padet Siridumrong told AFP. Initially, the Clear Sky indeed panicked and shakes them wildly with her trunk in the water, but at the end of the session she already seems much more at ease.\n  \n  \n   advertisement

'Normally, small elephants love water,' says Padet. 'If we continue to do so regularly they turn itself like. '

The animal, which has no parents, was in bad shape when it was brought by villagers at the clinic Nong Nooch Tropical Garden in the city of Chonburi. Her wound needed surgery and had not drunk for a long time.

Now the wound is completely healed, the doctors hope that they can quickly run through the therapy. She does not need a prosthesis as she learns to walk on her scarred leg.

Veterinarians gave the elephant 'needs bright prospects as long as she is with us, 'the name Clear Sky (clear air) because she says the director of the zoo where the animal lives now.

Elephants are the national symbol in Thailand. It is also the first country that opened a specialist clinic for animals.

Nevertheless, die more and more elephants because their habitat is restricted and because poachers hunt them for their ivory tusks. The country life is estimated to have about 2,500 elephants in the wild. Another 4,000 elephants are privately owned zoos and tourist attractions.
