sicily, italy - After France, Italy is now facing heavy rainfall, causing flooding in several parts, especially in Sicily.

After months of drought, Sicily is now experiencing flooding in various areas as a result of heavy rainfall. In Licata, a municipality near Agrigento, the Salso River overflowed, leading to several streets being inundated. Numerous residents had to evacuate their homes, with some even climbing onto the roof of a car to ensure their safety until rescued by the fire department.

Video footage shows torrents of water flowing through the streets of Catania, the second largest city in Sicily situated at the base of Mount Etna. Emergency services received an influx of distress calls on Saturday, particularly from residents whose houses were flooded and motorists in need of assistance.

In Randazzo, on the other side of Mount Etna, the fire department had to respond to trees falling on parked cars. Train services were disrupted in multiple locations in Sicily due to the severe weather conditions.

Other parts of Italy are also grappling with heavy rainfall. Five regions have been placed under an orange weather alert this weekend, while thirteen others are under a yellow alert. Emilia-Romagna and Veneto, which recently experienced severe flooding, have been enduring continuous rainfall for several days. Many schools have remained closed in these regions. Tuscany is also facing intense rainfall.

In France, where widespread rain and flooding occurred on Thursday and Friday, the situation is gradually improving, with relief efforts and clean-up operations now underway.
