new york - The U.S. Supreme Court has denied Donald Trump's request to stop his Friday conviction by a New York court for hush money paid to a porn star.

The judge in the case stated last week that he was not inclined to sentence the former Republican president to prison. A guilty verdict would not result in incarceration, fines, or probation, according to the judge.

The verdict is scheduled for 9:30 AM local time, 3:30 PM in the Netherlands. Trump, citing presidential immunity, unsuccessfully attempted to postpone the hearing recently. He expressed his desire to attend the verdict via video conferencing.

The case revolves around a payment to porn star Stormy Daniels, who claimed to have had an affair with Trump and received $130,000 before the 2016 elections to keep quiet about it. An attorney facilitated the hush money payment and was reportedly reimbursed by Trump later. Trump is not prosecuted for the hush money payment but for manipulating documents to conceal the reimbursement to his 'fixer'.

Trump became the first former president to face criminal charges. The Republican has consistently described attempts to prosecute him in the past years as a witch hunt. There were also cases related to attempts to overturn his 2020 election defeat and retaining classified documents on his estate post-presidency. Ultimately, a jury verdict was only reached in the New York hush money case.
