old fangak, south sudan - Medecins Sans Frontieres reports a hospital bombing in South Sudan, resulting in casualties and destruction of medical supplies. Concerns rise over renewed conflict amidst recent peace agreements.

Hospital Bombed in South Sudan

A hospital in northern South Sudan was bombed, destroying the pharmacy and medical supplies while MSF staff were on duty. Seven people died, and twenty were injured in other bombings in the region.

Peace Agreement and Renewed Concerns

Despite a peace agreement in 2018, tensions resurface after the arrest of First Vice President Riek Machar in March, sparking fears of renewed conflict between President Salva Kiir and Machar's forces.

MSF mission head in South Sudan, Mamman Mustapha, condemns the attack, emphasizing the hospital's crucial role in providing healthcare to over 110,000 people with limited access. Mustapha expresses concerns over the impact on healthcare services.

Assessing the damage's full extent, Mustapha highlights the further isolation of people from life-saving care due to the attack, urging all conflict parties to safeguard civilians and healthcare workers.
