Mass Grave Found in Syria Holds Over 100,000 Victims

damascus - A mass grave containing at least 100,000 opponents of the Assad regime has been discovered near Damascus, Syria by the Syrian Emergency Task Force, a US-based NGO.

Al-Qutayfah, located an hour northeast of Damascus, is said to contain the remains of over 100,000 individuals who opposed the Assad regime. This mass grave is believed to be one of the largest of the 21st century, according to Mouaz Moustafa of the Syrian Emergency Task Force.

Moustafa stated that the estimation of 100,000 bodies is a conservative figure and there are potentially four more mass grave sites that have been located. Preliminary findings suggest that many of the retrieved bodies showed signs of torture.

The Syrian Emergency Task Force's investigation has begun in Al-Qutayfah to uncover the extent of the atrocities committed. They have encountered disturbing evidence of systematic torture and inhumane treatment of victims.

Moustafa emphasized the urgency of securing these mass grave sites to prevent the destruction of evidence that could hold those responsible for these heinous crimes accountable.
