kiev, moscow - The Russian occupation of Ukraine results in significant losses, with over 390,000 casualties reported since February 2022.

Significant Losses in Ukraine

A recent report by The Moscow Times assesses the impact of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, revealing that the total number of Ukrainian and Russian casualties, including military personnel and civilians, has reached 390,500, with 800,000 wounded. This translates to almost six deaths and over eleven injuries per square kilometer.

The Moscow Times relies on verified sources such as Mediazona and the BBC for casualty figures. Recent data confirms that Russia has lost 95,000 soldiers in the conflict, although the actual number may be higher, estimated between 150,000 to 225,000.

Challenges in obtaining accurate figures persist due to unreported casualties and the lack of information from territories like Donetsk and Luhansk, occupied by Russia. The involvement of foreign fighters from countries like North Korea and the US adds complexity to casualty statistics.

While Ukrainian projects estimate 70,000 military deaths and 100,000 injuries, the UN reports nearly 13,000 Ukrainian civilian casualties, including around 670 children, with over 31,000 individuals wounded.
