Father (50) Accidentally Kills Daughter (14) During 'Playfight' in Kitchen: Prosecutors Disagree

darlington - A tragic incident occurred in the UK where a father accidentally killed his teenage daughter during what he described as a playful interaction in the kitchen. Prosecutors believe it was intentional.

On July 5, 50-year-old Simon Vickers was in the kitchen preparing dinner when his 14-year-old daughter Scarlett also entered the kitchen and started 'playing' with her father. What started as a playful exchange turned terribly wrong.

Due to an incident, whether deliberate or accidental, a knife pierced Scarlett's chest by as much as 11 centimeters, resulting in a punctured heart. The father claimed that she lunged at him, causing the knife to 'just go in,' he told the court on Tuesday.

However, prosecutors do not believe it was an accident. They accuse Vickers of deliberately stabbing his daughter. Prosecutor Mark McKone stated, 'The knife must have been held firmly in the suspect's hand to create an 11-centimeter deep wound. It is too deep to have been accidentally caused.'

Adding to Vickers' case is the inconsistency in his statements to the court compared to an earlier statement. When emergency services found Scarlett on the kitchen floor and her father was taken away by the police, he said, 'We were playing and started throwing things at each other.'

Mother Sarah Hall then mentioned that her husband did not even realize he was throwing a knife. 'I was getting the kitchen knife to cut garlic bread. At the same time, he grabbed the spatula but didn't realize the knife was also in his hand.' However, prosecutors do not believe the theory that the knife was thrown. Forensic investigators also refer to the incident as a 'stabbing.'

McKone stated, 'The suspect provided at least three different accounts before his formal police interview. One, that he threw a knife, two, that he threw other things, and three, that Scarlett lunged at the knife. The story doesn't match that of the pathologist, so the suspect must have lied to the police about what happened.'

Vickers vehemently denies intentionally harming his daughter. His lawyer stated, 'She was their only child. He had no intention or desire to harm her in any way. All three family members were having a normal Friday night at home.' The attorney added that Vickers and his daughter were engaging in 'a normal, playful manner' in the kitchen. The case will continue on Thursday.
