Public prosecutor parks Trump's election interference case

washington - An American judge on Friday agreed to a request from the public prosecutor Jack Smith to temporarily suspend the case against Donald Trump concerning election interference in 2020.

In his request to the court, Smith explicitly referred to the fact that Trump will be inaugurated as president on January 20, 2025. He asked the judge to suspend the case so that the Public Prosecutor's Office has time to assess this unprecedented situation and determine the right course for the future in accordance with the Department of Justice's policy.

The request was granted without comment. Smith stated that he will submit a status report to the court by December 2.

Trump is accused of conspiring to overturn the results of the 2020 presidential election. On January 6, 2021, a crowd of Trump supporters stormed the Capitol building in Washington to prevent a special session of Congress from certifying Joe Biden's victory.
