barcelona, spain - Laia Aleixandri returns to Barcelona on a free transfer after leaving Manchester City, strengthening the team's defense ahead of the European Championships.

Barcelona Signs Laia Aleixandri on Free Transfer

Laia Aleixandri, the Spain defender, has rejoined Barcelona on a free transfer after ending her contract with Manchester City. The Catalan club confirmed the signing, with Aleixandri signing a contract until 2029.

Return to Barcelona

Aleixandri, 24, left Barcelona in 2017 to join Atlético Madrid and later moved to Manchester City in 2022. She replaces Ingrid Engen in the Barcelona squad and joins a strong defensive lineup including Irene Paredes, Mapi León, and Jana Fernández.

Professional Journey

Having made over 100 appearances for Atlético Madrid and 87 appearances for Manchester City, Aleixandri decided to return to her hometown club. She is a versatile player who can also play in midfield and is a key member of the Spain national team.

Upcoming European Championships

Aleixandri is expected to partner with Paredes in defense for Spain at the European Championships in July. Her return to Barcelona marks a significant move for both the player and the club.
