newport, wales - A British woman, who accidentally threw away a hard drive containing over 682 million euros worth of bitcoin investments, speaks out for the first time after her ex-partner demands a significant compensation from the city council.

The British woman, identified as Hafina, revealed that her ex-husband, James Howells, started mining bitcoins back in 2009 and managed to accumulate 8,000 bitcoins over ten weeks. Despite his efforts, he accidentally lost access to his bitcoin as he couldn't transfer the password-protected file to his new Apple computer, leaving the hard drive collecting dust in a drawer for years. The dispute over the discarded hard drive has now escalated to a legal battle, with Howells seeking a compensation of over 114.3 million euros from the city council for withholding his property.

However, Hafina insists that she bears no responsibility for the lost hard drive, as she was merely following her ex-partner's instructions to dispose of three or four garbage bags at the landfill a decade ago. She hopes that Howells can recover the hard drive and put an end to the ongoing conflict, emphasizing that she has no interest in financial gain and is ready to move on from the situation. Despite being the parents of two children, the relationship between the former couple has soured, with no communication between them.

Meanwhile, Howells continues his efforts to locate the discarded hard drive, which could now be worth more than 682 million euros due to the surging value of Bitcoin. The city council of Newport, where the landfill is located, has denied Howells access to the site, citing environmental concerns and the massive amount of waste on the premises. Howells remains determined to retrieve his lost bitcoin and has taken legal action against the city council. The case is set for a court hearing on December 3, with both parties awaiting the judge's decision.
