New Investigation Ordered in Bende van Nijvel Case

The Court of Appeal in Mons, Belgium, has initiated a fresh investigation in the Bende van Nijvel case, revisiting a lead related to two French brothers possibly connected to the gang's criminal activities.

Background

Last year, the federal prosecutor's office announced the closure of the Bende van Nijvel investigation, but recent developments prompted a re-evaluation by the Mons judiciary. In January, a new probe was launched into a notebook containing car plate numbers from forty years ago, believed to hold information on the gang's final heist in 1985.

Current Progress

A retired gendarme, Jean-Pierre Adam, sparked the latest turn in the case with his findings, suggesting the involvement of two Northern French brothers in the Bende's attacks. French lawyer Patrick Ramaël, representing the victims, expressed optimism, emphasizing the significance of investigating the French lead after facing resistance from judicial authorities previously.

Ramaël hailed the court's decision as a triumph for the victims, justice, and the Belgian legal system, anticipating further breakthroughs in pursuit of truth and justice.
