vang vieng - An Australian teenager has tragically passed away after consuming toxic cocktails during a trip to Laos. The incident has raised concerns about methanol poisoning among travelers in Southeast Asia.

An Australian teenager, identified as Jones, lost her life in a hospital in Thailand after drinking methanol-laced drinks in Laos.

Together with her 19-year-old friend Holly Bowles, Jones was on vacation in Vang Vieng, a popular destination for backpackers in Laos. They were found severely ill in their hotel room after failing to check out on November 13.

The Jones family expressed their gratitude for the support they received from Australia following the tragic loss. Another American and two Danish tourists also succumbed to the suspected mass poisoning incident, leaving ten others hospitalized.

A statement from the Jones family described Bianca and Holly Bowles' trip as a dream journey filled with joy and adventure.

The Australian Department of Foreign Affairs has issued a warning to Australians traveling to Southeast Asia, specifically Laos, to be cautious of methanol and to only consume beverages from cans or bottles.

Reports on social media have highlighted the risks of methanol poisoning in Vang Vieng and advised against staying at the Nana Backpackers Hostel, where the Australian backpackers were accommodated. The hostel owner denies any involvement in the poisoning cases, emphasizing the safety of their alcohol products.

Despite the owner's claims, travelers on social media remain skeptical of the hostel's safety standards, with multiple backpackers reportedly falling ill due to poisoning incidents.
