- Atlético Madrid is close to signing Thiago Almada from Lyon in a deal worth €15-20m. Almada, a 2022 World Cup winner, is set to join the Rojiblancos this summer, following Ángel Correa's departure.

Atlético Madrid Close to Signing Thiago Almada from Lyon

Atlético Madrid is in advanced talks with Lyon of Eagle Football Holdings to secure the transfer of Thiago Almada for a fee between €15 million and €20 million. Almada, a 2022 World Cup champion with Argentina, has reportedly agreed to move to the Rojiblancos.

Almada's Background and Versatility

The 24-year-old midfielder/forward, who can play in various positions, currently has a contract with Lyon's affiliate Botafogo until June 2029. He spent the previous season on loan at Lyon, making 16 appearances in Ligue 1.

Potential Departure of Rodrigo De Paul

Atlético's pursuit of Almada comes as they face the possible exit of Argentine midfielder Rodrigo De Paul to Inter Miami. De Paul, 31, has one year left on his contract, and Atlético is keen on avoiding a free transfer next year.

Search for De Paul's Replacement

If De Paul leaves, Atlético aims to sign a midfielder with similar attributes. Valencia's Javi Guerra and Palmeiras' Richard Ríos are among the potential targets, with Guerra being a more favorable option due to cost considerations.
