British Drill Rapper Jake Fahri Returns to Prison

Jake Fahri, a British drill rapper, is back behind bars after referencing a murder he committed in one of his songs. Fahri, also known as TEN, was initially released from prison for good behavior but faced renewed scrutiny when his lyrics directly mentioned the killing of a 16-year-old boy he was previously incarcerated for.

Margaret Mizen, who has been critical of the violent music that glorifies crime, drugs, and gang life, teaches about this issue in primary schools. When the murderer of her son released a song specifically alluding to her son Jimmy's murder, she took action. The 72-year-old went to the British newspaper The Sun with her husband, drawing widespread attention from the media and successfully getting Fahri back in prison.

Response to Violent Lyrics

Last Friday, Jimmy's mother returned to teaching and played the rapper's song, featured by the BBC. She expressed her disapproval, stating that these are not merely songs but words with terrible connotations. She criticized drill rappers for profiting from promoting violence and underlined her family's message of forgiveness, peace, and hope as opposed to glorifying murder.

In 2008, Fahri was sentenced to life in prison with a minimum term of 14 years but was conditionally released in June 2023. His interaction with Margaret's son Jimmy resulted in a violent altercation, during which Fahri threw a glass baking dish that shattered. Margaret emphasized the importance of Fahri showing remorse and expressed disappointment in his apparent lack thereof.

The Tragic Incident

Fahri, 19 at the time, killed 16-year-old Jimmy during a bakery conflict by throwing a glass dish at him. Jimmy, a tall young man, refused Fahri's challenge to fight outside, leading Fahri to leave initially. However, Fahri returned shortly and instigated a fight, hurling the glass dish that fatally injured Jimmy. Witnesses reported Fahri leaving the scene with a smile, leaving Jimmy unconscious in his brother's arms.

Between 2022 and 2023, the British police removed 315 drill music videos from YouTube due to their violent content.
