Assad: Syria too small for federal government

damascus - Syria is too small to create a federation. This said Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, reported the Russian news agency RIA Wednesday. A federation is impossible according to the president and in addition a majority of the population which would not support. The Kurds in Syria would be a majority against a federal system, says Assad.
Kurds in the north have recently launched a plan for a federal system. Syria has an area of over 185 000 square kilometers, 4.5 times as large as the Swiss confederation and six times the size of federal Belgium.
