Arap Leaders Support Egypt's 'Gaza Plan'

A summit in Cairo convened by Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi brought together Arab leaders to discuss a reconstruction plan for Gaza Strip. The summit aimed to provide an alternative to the US President's proposal and focus on rebuilding Gaza without displacing its residents. The drafted declaration emphasized the importance of a two-state solution and urged the international community to support the plan financially.

Early Recovery Phase

  • The plan entails the establishment of a new temporary governance named 'Administration Support Mission' to replace the current Hamas leadership in Gaza.
  • The early recovery phase, estimated to cost $3 billion and last for six months, will focus on clearing mines, debris, and providing temporary shelter in 7 different areas.

Reconstruction Process

  • The first phase of the two-year reconstruction plan, costing $20 billion, includes the construction of 200,000 housing units.
  • The second phase, expected to take two and a half years, involves building 200,000 housing units and an airport in Gaza, with a total estimated cost of $53 billion.

An international conference on Gaza's reconstruction is planned in Cairo by the end of this month. Syrian President Bashar al-Assad also attended the Arab League summit in Cairo to discuss Gaza's future. Meetings were held with various leaders, including the EU Council President, Yemeni Presidential Leadership Council President, and Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas.
