American Congress approves budget

World February 9, 2018 10:48

- The US Congress has approved a new budget for the federal government. The House of Representatives agreed to the proposal in the early morning, after the Senate had given green light before. President Trump must now sign his signature.

Congress did not succeed in voting on the deadline for financing the government on Thursday. The Republican Senator Rand Paul stopped the vote for hours. He complained that the planned increase in government spending amounts to 'pillaging the treasury'.

The delay led to a partial closure of government agencies, a so-called shutdown. That also happened in January for three days. Thereafter, Congress agreed with a temporary solution.
