The session was adjourned for 2 hours, and a decision will be made on whether the second session for the election will be held today. General Joseph Aoun received 71 votes in the 13th session held today for the election of the president in the Lebanese Parliament.

With 37 neutral votes and 18 invalid votes, 2 votes were also cast for different candidates.

The session in the parliament was adjourned for 2 hours, and a decision will be made on whether the second session for the election will be held today.

According to the country's laws, an applicant must receive 86 votes in the first session to be elected as the president.

Lebanon has been unable to elect a new president since the end of the term of former President Michel Aoun on October 31, 2022.

The last session in the parliament was held on June 14, 2023.

Former President Aoun was elected in the 46th session held in the parliament in 2016.

According to the Lebanese Constitution, the President is Maronite Christian, the Prime Minister is Sunni, and the Speaker of the Parliament is selected from the Shiites.
