laguna - A woman in Australia got trapped upside down under rocks in an attempt to retrieve her phone, leading to a seven-hour ordeal in a three-meter deep crevice.

A woman in Australia found herself trapped upside down under rocks for seven hours after falling into a three-meter deep crevice while trying to retrieve her phone.

The incident took place in Laguna in the New South Wales region. Friends initially tried to free the woman, Matilda Campbell, on their own, but due to her upside-down position, it proved to be a challenging task, prompting them to call emergency services.

“In my ten years as a rescue paramedic, I have never experienced such an operation,” said Peter Watts, one of the rescuers, to The Guardian. “It was challenging, but incredibly rewarding. Each entity had a role, and we all worked incredibly well together to achieve a good outcome for the patient.”

Campbell, in her early 20s, was eventually rescued from her 'unlikely predicament' by a team of 'multidisciplinary rescuers.' They moved several heavy rocks, including one weighing 500 kilograms, using a special winch. Wooden frames were used to ensure stability.

Subsequently, both feet were made accessible to rescuers, and Campbell was pulled up. This necessitated navigating the rocks 'through a tight s-curve,' which alone took an hour. In the end, the young woman was freed with only bruises and abrasions. Her phone, however, was not recovered.
