london - Friday marks the 50th anniversary of the passing of the British writer PG Wodehouse, known for his superior humor and prolific writing.

Legacy of PG Wodehouse

British humorist PG Wodehouse passed away fifty years ago, leaving behind a legacy of wit and charm. Wodehouse, praised for his genius in depicting a bygone idyllic England, authored a total of 99 books along with numerous musicals, filmscripts, and songs.

Wodehouse, affectionately called Plum by family and friends, was known for his disciplined routine. His grandson, Edward Cazalet, recalls Wodehouse's meticulous daily schedule, highlighting his dedication to his craft.

Despite his serious demeanor, Wodehouse's novels, especially the adventures of Bertie Wooster and Jeeves, are filled with humor and wit. Evelyn Waugh once noted Wodehouse's ability to evoke smiles of delight on every page.

During the dark days of World War II, Wodehouse faced personal tragedies and accusations of collaboration due to his ill-timed broadcasts from Germany. However, he continued to entertain his fellow prisoners with stories, showcasing his resilience and humor even in adversity.

Ultimately, Wodehouse found solace in the US, where he continued to write until his death. In 1975, he was posthumously knighted, a fitting tribute to his enduring literary contribution.
