freiburg - A fire in a chemical container in Freiburg, Germany Seventeen rescue workers were slightly injured. She suffered from irritated airways and eyes, police said. Two firefighters were taken to hospital for further examination.

There was sodium dithionite in the container, a substance that is used, inter alia, as a bleaching agent.

The cause of the fire that broke out Monday afternoon is not yet known. Nearly a hundred firefighters and 35 staff were deployed by the Red Cross in the rescue efforts, which lasted ten hours.
