Approximately 15,000 people on Greek islands are waiting for a government decision on their migration request. The governor of the islands in the eastern part of the Aegean Sea blames the endless official procedure and the shortage of civil servants.
The Greek government gets thousands of migrants from the camps on some islands in the Aegean Sea. By order of the Ministry of the Interior, 250 people have been picked up by boat on the island of Lesbos and taken to the port of Piraeus.
The European Union does its utmost to prevent migrants stuck on Greek islands from being exposed to winter conditions again. 'We can not repeat last year,' said EU Commissioner Dimitris Avramopoulos (Migration) in the European Parliament on Wednesday.
