ukraine - Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky claimed that Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko apologized to him during the early days of the Ukraine war. Zelensky discussed various topics including the Russia-Ukraine War, peace negotiations, power dynamics in Ukraine, and leader meetings in an interview with American podcast host Lex Fridman.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky revealed in an interview that Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko apologized to him during the early days of the Ukraine war. Zelensky stated that on the second or third day of the Russia-Ukraine War, he had a phone conversation with Lukashenko where the Belarusian leader apologized, stating, 'This is not my fault. Missiles were launched from my territory, but it was Putin who launched them. I have witnesses, I apologize.'

Zelensky also mentioned that Lukashenko warned him that Belarus could not fight against the Russians. Zelensky responded to his Belarusian counterpart, 'This is a war. Missiles were launched from Belarus to our territory. How could you allow this?'

Lukashenko reportedly replied, 'Okay, then retaliate. Hit the (Mozyr Oil Refinery). You know how important that is.'

Referring to the time of the Bush administration, Zelensky pointed out that the US supported Ukraine's NATO membership. He mentioned that former German Chancellor Angela Merkel opposed this and pressured everyone not to extend an invitation for Ukraine to join NATO.

Zelensky also evaluated the presidency of former US President Donald Trump, stating, 'I believe Trump has the power to stop the war by exerting pressure on Putin, but this can only be achieved with serious security guarantees.'

Zelensky expressed his belief that the war would end and that Trump would be the first leader to visit Ukraine by plane, emphasizing the symbolic gesture it would represent.
