kiev/washington - Donald Trump aims to achieve peace in Ukraine within a day of his inauguration, but will Kiev agree to his terms? Read more on telegraaf.nl.

Last summer, the future president gave an interview to FOX News where Ukraine was discussed. Trump stated that he would put the presidents of Ukraine and Russia in a position to make a deal within a day. However, Ukrainian President Zelenski finds peace negotiations based on these conditions unacceptable. Zelenski emphasized during his visit to Budapest that Ukraine would not agree to a peace deal that implies losses for the country. Trump has yet to choose from various plans on the table, according to a source close to him. The US is expected to take more initiative in leading peace negotiations in Ukraine, shifting from the approach under Joe Biden's administration. European allies are likely to play a role in implementing the peace plan, with the demilitarized zone monitoring being assigned to them. Meanwhile, Russian President Putin awaits Trump's call to discuss restoring relations and resolving the crisis in Ukraine. Putin praised Trump's courage in dealing with campaign incidents, suggesting that a cooperative approach may yield better results with the new US administration.
