Westertoren struck down

amsterdam - The famous Wester Tower in Amsterdam was hit last night. The carillon of the church played all night but repeatedly.

Playing the carillon started around the clock at four o'clock at night. Some neighborhood residents could not sleep and called the police. However, they could not adjust at night time.

The tower is owned by the municipality of Amsterdam. But there was no one at that time.

The Jordaan itself is used to playing the Westertoren at night too. Normally the bell rings every quarter. That's been through for centuries day and night, but tonight the carillon has taken the lead and does not end.
