tarneit, melbourne, australia - Western United has less than three days to appeal after an extension was granted following the stripping of their A-Leagues licence due to financial issues.

Western United's Race Against Time to Save Club

Western United faces a critical deadline to appeal the stripping of their A-Leagues licence, leaving the club at risk of folding due to financial troubles. The club was initially stripped of its licence on August 8, plunging players and staff into uncertainty.

Timeline of Events

Following the decision by Football Australia's First Instance Board (FIB) to withdraw their licence, United had until August 16 to lodge an appeal but requested an extension. The club now has until August 21 at 10am to submit their appeal, failing which the right to appeal will expire.

Financial Turmoil and Ownership Issues

United, based in Tarneit, Melbourne, have faced financial challenges for months, resulting in delayed payments to players and staff. Despite hopes of a takeover by American group KAM Sports, pending full ownership proposal submission, the club's future remains uncertain. Furthermore, a FIFA ban has hindered player registrations due to a dispute with former striker Aleksandar Prijovic.

The repercussions of United's situation are felt across the league, impacting fixture scheduling, club preparations, and marketing activities as the season approaches.

The ALM and ALW seasons are set to commence on October 17 and October 31, respectively, with the club's fate hanging in the balance.
